Former ‘Togolese’ professional footballer has offered clarity on his ancestry, stating he’s an undiluted Yoruba man from Nigeria. He had a chat with newsmen during the celebration of one of Nigeria’s football icons, Augustine Azuka Okocha aka Jay-Jay Okocha’s birthday.

Among the guests were ‘Togo’s’ Emmanuel Adebayor, Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan, and Khalilou Fadiga from Senegal. Nigerian legends also turned up for the party including Peter Rufai, Daniel Amokachi, Emmanuel Emenike, Ifeanyi Udeze, Julius Aghahowa, Joseph Yobo, and a host of others.

They were all seen grooving in style in what could be described as an ‘all-white party’.

Earlier, the group of African legends turned up at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, for an exhibition football match.

The former internationals featured in a five-a-side game at the arena, showing off their skills to the delight of a handful of fans inside the stadium.

In between the match, Adebayo had time to speak with newsmen where he clarified he is a Nigerian who was just born, bred and raised in Togo by Nigerian parents.

He stated:

“My father’s name is Adeyi Adebayo and my mother’s name is Alice Emiola Adekanni. So, I’m a pure Yoruba man.

“I was just born in Togo, grew up in Togo and was raised by Nigerian parents in Togo. But I’m fully from Nigeria.”
